Motorcycle 12v
Is it safe to use a 12V battery charger on my 6V motorcycle battery, or will I need to add some resistance?
Would some kind electronically minded person like to advise me if it is possible to charge my 6V acid battery with the use of a 12V battery charger?
After buying a trickle charger that stated it could be used on either 6v or 12v battery I now find, when I placed it on my multi meter that it is showing a voltage output rate of 14.4 volts.
Surely if I put this on my battery it will fry it totally, would it be possible to place a resistor in the circuit to reduce the voltage to just over 6 volts.
The trickle charger output reads: DC 14.4V – 0.5A, if I put a 15-Ohm resistor in series with the live connection wire would this protect my battery.
I would be most grateful for any advice you can lend.

That will do it, has a max input of 35 volts and will bring it down to 6 volts. First pin is positive input, second pin is the common ground, third pin is positive output.
You connect the negative of both battery and charger to the middle pin. The charger positive to the first pin and the battery to the third. If you can find a better one though I would recommend doing so since these things get notoriously hot so a heat sink will help. However if you can find a heartier version it would be better. Murata makes a 5.1v that I use, the 78sr5. They dont even get warm, stays very cool.I am sure you can find a quality one that wont overheat. But the cheaper one works pretty well for a while.

It is kind of pricy but it is adjustable and will not heat, plus it has the markings for the pin :p. Looks nice.
